Jake facing the Phillies – Catch up Ball

Jake in Orange 2 - CopyPlaying catch up, having a look at Jakes game from Friday opening the series against the Phillies.

Start #15 for Jake on the year.

Jake’s first pitch of the night a strike.

Giants open the home half of the 1st with Span beating the throw to 1st, Crawford with a single getting Span to 3rd. Pagan with a taper getting Span home for a 1 to 0 Giants lead. Angel safe at 2nd on the steal.

Jake throws 1 pitch for 1 out in the top of the 2nd, Nice fastball by Jake to get the second out. Jake issued his first walk of the day, Trevor Brown with the pick off to 1st to close the inning.

3rd inning and Jake will have a bruise on his left shin after stopping that ball and getting the out. Talk about putting your body in the like. Great job between Jake and Trevor holding the baserunner close and Trevor won in the end picking him off at 2nd.

Phillies tie the game at 1 all with a double in the top of the 4th, Home half and the runners are safe at the corners, with Jake coming to the plate, (E – 3).

Phillies have runners at the corners with no outs. Phillies take the lead on a sac fly for a 2 to 1 score.

Top of 7th and Jake is digging deep looking at 100 pitches but has been amazing. 4 strikeouts to this point in the game.

Home half of the 7th and Jake is done, Trevor on with a single, Buster Posey batting for Jake, Buster on with a single, the boys advanced 90 feet thanks to a Span bunt. Panik walked to load the pond for Belt. Brandon with a bases clearing double for a 4 to 2 Giants lead. Belt to 3rd on a Crawford bomb to triples alley, Belt home on a Pagan single for a 5 to 2 lead.

Top of 8th and Span goes down trying to make the catch, Phillies baserunner with a triple. Josh Osich is in and by now you know he is needing to earn my respect back after blowing a lead when he took over for Jake a few games back. Giants bullpen has stranded 81% of the baserunners they have inherited. Gearrin has the bases loaded, a single takes the score to 5 to 3 with 2 outs and bases still loaded. Walked another run cutting the Giants lead to 5 to 4. (3 walks in the inning) Giants gave up a pair and it will now be the closers to sort this out.

Top of the 9th has Lopez heading to the office. Lopez does his job and Coach Bruce takes the keys to hand off to Cassilla (16 saves) Cassilla hits the batter to load the bases, this is getting ugly by the minute. You are kidding me, Giants got the out but the Phillies want a review. Call stands.

**Final Score, — Giants – 5 and Phillies – 4

Jakes numbers are getting better with 7 innings worked – 7 hits, 2 earned runs, 2 walks and 4 strikeouts.

Jakes ERA is getting more healthy at 5.22

Jakes next appearance should be Wednesday during the Oakland series.
